5. Records available without a request
The privacy notice, disclaimer and all educational content on this site are freely available without any request or fee.
6. How to request a record
Requests are made to the Information Officer on Form 2 of the PAIA regulations, obtainable from the Information Regulator. If you are asking about your own personal information, the simpler route is the request form on this site, which covers access, correction, deletion and objection.
A request must give enough detail to identify the record and the requester, state the form of access required, and provide contact details. A decision follows within 30 days, extendable in the circumstances the Act allows.
7. Grounds for refusal
Access may be refused on the grounds set out in Chapter 4 of Part 3 of the Act, including the protection of another person’s privacy, commercial information of a third party, and legally privileged records.
8. Remedies
If a request is refused, you may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa) at complaints.IR@justice.gov.za, or apply to a court.
This manual is updated when the particulars above change. It is not legal advice.
